When looking for home security options for your home, it’s easy to become overwhelmed. Home security is a massive and growing industry that covers everything from professional firms, to standalone devices such as cameras and sensors.  Some professional firms are now also starting to embrace third-party device integrations – and an increasing number of DIY companies are now offering features previously reserved for professional companies, such as 24/7 monitoring.

The great news with how large the security industry is, is that there is bound to be a perfect option out there for your home. But, it can be a challenge to sort through the options to find the perfect system.

Professional Firms

This is known as a “traditional” model for home security – a company installs and services an alarm system for your home, and for a monthly fee monitors it. These options usually come with a multi-year contract which requires a cancellation fee (and giving back the equipment) if you decide you no longer want it.

Many professional firms offer very convenient features, such as door and window sensors, keypads, and security cameras, which can be combined to suit exactly what your home needs. As well, your contract comes with 24/7 support. These options can be quite costly, but may be worthwhile for your security needs.

DIY Security Options

Do-it-yourself home security is all about choices and options. But, you will have to take on a lot more responsibility from installing, to doing your own monitoring. DIY purchasing can require a lot more research, as the options are essentially endless. DIY kits exist, which can help with narrowing your choices down. Standalone cameras are a fairly popular choice, especially as they can be monitored from a smartphone to watch a vulnerable area of the house.

Even small features, such as locks have advanced exponentially in recent years. Smart locks can now pair with a cellphone through Bluetooth – and in some cases can be unlocked even when you are away from the home over a Wi-Fi connection.

Home security has many options, ranging from a package completely done for you – to you installing and monitoring everything yourself, and everything in between. No matter your preference, the perfect option is out there for you.
